Neuro-Linguistic Programming: What is it?
Neuro-linguistic programming is a psychological approach which asserts that one can adapt strategies used by successful individuals to achieve one’s own goals. It guides the individual in learning from their own experiences of success and failure about which thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are useful, and which are getting in their way. No action is negative, even if it leads to perceived failure, as it is just a step in the learning process.
NLP was developed in the 1970s by John Grinder and Richard Bandler. Grinder is a linguist, and he used his expertise in language to pinpoint how a person’s speech patterns reflect the way they process the world. Bandler is an information scientist and mathematician, a background which was instrumental in NLP’s philosophy that a human’s internal processing can be mapped and analyzed.
By assessing a person’s speech, actions, thoughts, and feelings, neuro-linguistic programming practitioners build an understanding of the person’s map of reality. NLP techniques are then used to help the person copy the processes used by others, to use them in place of techniques that have not proved successful.

What Happens in a Neuro-Linguistic Programming Session?
In an NLP therapy session, the therapist works with a person to understand his/her thinking, behaviors, emotional states, and aspirations. They then attempt to outline the person’s map of the world, along with their primary representational system (PRS). Once they have a foundation, they use a variety of techniques to change the way the person thinks, feels, or behaves in certain situations.
NLP sessions are strongly based in the present, and require the client to work towards change in the session itself.

Therapy tends to be fast, usually resolving issues in several brief sessions, so it is very cost effective and  cheaper than traditional therapies. I work on the basis that you have all the resources you need to make positive changes in your life, NLP techniques are used to facilitate these changes, so you can concentrate on what you are thinking and feeling. You’ll  establish new patterns of behaviour as you learn the techniques for yourself which means you can continue to become the expert of YOU!
The first session is about getting to know you.  It’s important to understand what brought you to seek help. So we’ll have a chat about what is concerning you, what you expect to get out of our sessions and discuss the way to approach what your outcomes are. Only a short period of time is spent on defining the problem before working on your outcomes. So you can expect to experience change in each session.

I use a combination of strategies which include questioning, gentle guided visualisations, calm relaxation techniques and coaching. Sometimes this means me asking you lots of questions to help you work out what actions you are going to take.  We will break everything down into manageable chunks to make it easier to see what the problems are and what the solutions are. The whole session will run at the pace you choose to make sure you take each step in a way that will enable you to feel comfortable with yourself.

In my sessions, chances are you will laugh a lot.  You might cry too. Both will feel as good and hopefully, it will be a cleansing experience!
See you soon !
